Canadian Airways Limited Aware of the expanding role of aviation, CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILWAY (CPR) was awarded an airline company charter in March 1919 launching Canada’s commercial airline business. In 1930 government-owned Canadian National Railways and privately-owned CPR bought equal shares in Winnipeg’s Canadian Airways Limited. In the meantime CPR invested in “bush” airlines.
